With over 30 years of experience, Jan Dougalas is one of the senior Associates in the Los Angeles Structural Division of KPFF. Jan has led the design of numerous Healthcare, Lab, and Higher Education projects. She is also committed to refining the skills of the next generation of structural engineers and helping them become well rounded individuals as well as thoughtful, exceptional engineers. Jan brings tenacity and focus to her design teams, where she enjoys solving complex issues with her colleagues, architects, and contractors.
This presentation provides insights and recommendations for structural engineering graduate students soon to transition into the engineering/construction workforce. Technical proficiency is assumed and thus the presentation focuses on project team roles and responsibilities and communication both within and external to the project team. A solution to a specific real-world challenge is provided as an example.
