Akbar Mahvashmohammadi got his PhD in Lehigh University in August 2015. He has worked in Gilsanz Murray Steficek in New York City from Sep 2014 to Sep 2018. Akbar moved to San Diego and joined KPFF in October 2018. Akbar has worked on different types of projects including seismic evaluation, design of concrete shear wall buildings, design of steel buildings and renovation of existing buildings.
Geoff Warcholik joined KPFF in 1999 and has spent his entire structural engineering career with KPFF designing projects of all sizes from OSHPD anchorage to high rise buildings. He has extensive experience with wood, cold-formed steel and post-tensioned concrete construction. He is proud to be a LEED Accredited Professional and active with structural engineering organizations such as SEAOC and EERI. Some of Geoff’s notable San Diego projects are the Hard Rock Hotel and Renaissance Condominium Towers.
University of California policy requires that all university buildings be seismically evaluated and rated. ASCE 41 provides multi Tier guidelines on evaluation of existing buildings at pre-defined hazard levels for compliance with pre-defined performance levels. All UCSD buildings were evaluated in a joint effort by KPFF and two other companies in San Diego. Buildings were screened by Tier 1 procedure. The buildings that were found to have potential problems under Tier 1 screening were investigated more closely per ASCE 41 Tier 2 evaluation approach. Seismic retrofit plans were developed for buildings that did not pass Tier 2 checks.
