Patrick Chang

Patrick Chang is a 2006 UCSD alumnus. He has over 16 years of experience performing structural design and analysis. In 2010 Patrick joined Moffatt and Nichol, where he has been working with the Transportation, Ports, and Structures groups located in San Diego. He leads the nonlinear finite element
analysis (FEA) group at M&N.

Valentina Vasquez

Valentina is a Chilean civil engineer who joined Moffatt and Nichol in 2019 after getting her Master’s at UCSD. Before coming to the US, Valentina worked in the building industry for six years, overseeing the design, analysis, and drawing production of high-rise concrete buildings. The 2010 Chile Earthquake greatly impacted her professional career, which dictated the topic of her undergraduate thesis—leading to her passion for the seismic design of concrete structures. Valentina is a WiSE (Women in Structural Engineering) member under the SEAOSD chapter.

In 1941, John G. Moffatt and Frank E. Nichol formed partnerships in California to provide engineering and design services to the growing marine infrastructure of the West Coast of the United States. Initially, Moffatt & Nichol concentrated on harbor works and waterways, bridges, buildings, industrial facilities, military installations, and public works. Since our founding, Moffatt & Nichol has expanded its service areas to offer transportation economics and finance; port and transportation planning; environmental planning, mitigation, and restoration; coastal and water resources engineering; and construction management, supervision, and inspection. During their distinguished careers, John Moffatt and Frank Nichol established a reputation for developing creative but practical designs, nurturing a company that continues that tradition today.

This presentation will provide an overview of the challenging projects that M&N San Diego has
participated in and how we put into action our lemma, Creative People, Practical Solutions.
