Speaker Bio

Chris Putman is a Senior Engineer with Holmes Structures and has over 11 years of experience practicing structural engineering in California and throughout the US. He graduated with his Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from Stanford University. In his spare time, Chris enjoys being on the beach with his wife and their two-year-old son. He hikes with his rescue dog, whom he adores and who systematically destroys everything he owns.

This lecture will explore the motivation and background of mass timber as a building material, current gravity and lateral design systems, and recent implementation. We will briefly discuss fire and building code, serviceability, and coordination with design and construction teams.
