
Derrick Watkins is a structural engineer, entrepreneur, and technical problem solver focused on providing win-win, value-added solutions related to mission-critical assets in the defense, energy, health care, and aerospace industries. Derrick received a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, as well as a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He was the co-founder of Tobolski Watkins Engineering, TRU Compliance, and Seismic Test Co. Derrick is a principal at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, where he has been recently recognized as an ASCE Fellow for his work on the ASCE 4 and 43 Committees and for his dedication to both advanced analysis and mentoring the next generation of structural engineering leaders.
