Swinging into Innovation: TaylorMade Golf Endows UC San Diego Faculty Fellow

Professor Kenneth Loh

Professor Kenneth Loh, from the Department of Structural Engineering at UC San Diego, has been named the inaugural holder of the TaylorMade Golf Chancellor’s Endowed Faculty Fellowship. Holding this faculty fellowship will enable Professor Loh to further advance his research on human performance and human-structure interactions, specifically, in innovative stimuli-responsive materials and nanocomposites.

TaylorMade Golf, headquartered in Carlsbad, California, began with a single salesman's vision of a 12-degree steel driver. Since its inception, the company has consistently broken tradition to lead in product innovation, maintaining close ties with real golfers to ensure authenticity in their offerings.

This fellowship highlights TaylorMade Golf's dedication to supporting the Department of Structural Engineering's research and educational endeavors. The support will give Professor Loh's research group flexibility to explore areas of shared interest with TaylorMade Golf, including innovations relevant to next-generation golf products.

Professor Loh serves as the Director of the ARMOR Laboratory and the Jacobs School of Engineering's Center for Extreme Events Research (CEER). He is also a faculty affiliate of the Center for Wearable Sensors (CWS) and the Materials Science & Engineering Program. He earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2008.
