UC San Diego Structural Engineering 2010 Ph.D. alumnus Eric Flynn, who worked under the guidance of Distinguished Professor Mike Todd, has been honored with the 2022 Distinguished Performance Award at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Each year, the Laboratory recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves through their outstanding scientific, technical, operational, or administrative contributions in support of the Laboratory’s mission. These employees go above and beyond to deliver innovative solutions for highly complex problems.
In a matter of two months, Eric Flynn developed a new data processing pipeline that had a major positive impact on an urgent global security need. Eric demonstrated tremendous ingenuity and effort in developing and maturing a nascent sensing and processing capability, effectively becoming a one-person processing, exploitation, and dissemination capability. Eric has formed and is training a new technical team (which includes UC San Diego SE alumnus Brian West) to leverage his groundbreaking work, thus making his efforts both tractable and scalable, and he is positioning the Laboratory to better support it’s critical national security mission.
